|
1) Project Name: Building 208 and 210 2) Dollar Amount: $1.7 million 3) Location: NASA Glenn Research Center 4) Description of Project: Replacement of salt storage and maintenance building 5) KBJ’s Role: Prime Contractor 6) Walk Thru Process: KBJ Inc served as a construction manager for this $ 1.7 million project scheduled to be completed by June 1, 2007. This project consisted of a 15,000 square feet metal pre-fabricated building that was replaced by the new maintenance building. The project also involves the construction of a wooden pre-fabricated salt storage building, built next to the maintenance. 7) Nuances/Dilemmas: The site contains hazardous soils, which needed to be disposed properly according to EPA regulations. Also, the site borders Cleveland Hopkins Airport and because of that we could not use cranes that interfered with the landing and take-off of aircrafts. 8) How the Company resolved the Issues: EPA requires that all harmful soils are to be disposed or placed only in commercial sites, several mile away from residential areas. We were able to find the needed EPA approved disposal sites less than 5 miles away from out project site. In addition, we successfully disposed more than 20,000 yards of contaminated soils at this location. In order to follow the strict guidelines spelled out by FAA and NASA regulations, we have used the tower cranes which didn’t intervene with the regulations.
